Only the Dead Have Seen the End of War
This painting reflects the ongoing toll of war, showing how humanity continues to suffer as we repeatedly choose to engage in it. A young soldier lies in a stigmata position in blood-stained snow, sacrificed for causes beyond him, innocence lost and life cut short. Doves escape his chest, symbols of peace betrayed by war’s false promises. The Ouroboros patch on his uniform marks the endless cycle: war breeding more war.
Reflective Question: what is truly gained when so much is lost?
The title of my piece is a quote with no confirmed original author. However, it is most commonly attributed to the philosopher George Santayana.
